CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati women's golf team took hold of first place after shooting a 300 during round two of the UC Spring Invitational in Crystal River, Fla. The Bearcats improved four strokes from round one to move from third to first place in the 17-team field with a total score of 604 (304-300).
"The girls battled hard today" said head coach Janet Carl. "We are anxious to get back out on the golf course. We need to work on trying to finish tomorrow, but I am proud of the effort today."
UC was led by junior Olivia Dose (Goteborg, Sweden/Goteborg Hogre Samskola) who scored a tournament-best one-under-par 71 on day two. After two rounds, Dose has a score of 149 (78-71). Senior Maria Roos (Uppsala, Sweden/Mississippi State) also scored a 149 (72-77) to tie the teammates in sixth place. Senior Alex Carl (Union, Ky./Notre Dame Academy) finished the day tied for 13th (76-76=152), freshman Stefanie Mitchell (Sarasota, Fla./Riverview) is tied for 22nd (78-76=154) and junior Andrea Malek (Tibro, Sweden/Klippans Gymnasieskola) sits in a tie for 61st place (81-83=164).
Sophomore Mackenzie Moir (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart Adacemy) is third amongst individual scorers and tied for 47th overall with a 160 (77-83). Freshman Stephanie Hovarth (Medina, Ohio/Highland) sits in a tie for 66th (80-85), senior Fredricka Winqvist (Enebyberg, Sweden/Marina Larouerkert) finished in a tie for 85th (86-82) and freshman Ali Jakubecz (Stongville, Ohio/Strongville) is tied for 91st (87-84).
The Bearcats' hold on first place puts them on track for their highest finish of the spring season. A win after round three on Sunday would also mark the first time UC has won its invitational.
Bradley University (302-303=605), Florida Southern (303-310), Xavier (306-309) and Seton Hall (314-302) round out the top-five teams.
Round three of the UC Spring Invitational will be played on Sunday, March 24 with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
