CINCINNATI, Ohio --- The University of Cincinnati Bearcat golf teams split with Northern Kentucky University Friday and claimed the "Cross River Shootout" title at Elks Run Golf Course.
The UC women's golf team bested NKU, 304-340. The Bearcats, coming off a season-best round of 303 at the Lady Irish Invitational earlier this week, remained consistent with a 304. Junior Allison Mayborg and sophomore Sarah Stamper paced UC with solid rounds of 75. Stamper's round was a career-best, while Mayborg tied her season-best round. Sophomore Marianne Erb shot a 76, junior Hillery Wilson shot a 78 and senior Sarah Bires carded a 79.
"The girls continued their steady play," said Coach Janet Carl. "They are really working very much as a team now, stepping it up to pick each other up."
The Bearcats claimed the "Cross River Shootout" 296-306. The winning team was determined by combining the best two scores from the men and women of each team. Cincinnati's scores of Young (72), Newman (74), Stamper (75) and Mayborg (75) clinched the title for UC.
The Bearcat women's golf returns to action Oct. 9-10 at The Shootout at the Legends in Franklin, Ind.
