BATAVIA, Ohio - The University of Cincinnati women's golf team came from behind to win the 2009 UC Fall Classic on Tuesday (Sept. 29) at Elks Run Golf Club.
Freshman Alex Carl (Union, Ky./Notre Dame Academy) led the Bearcats for the second straight tournament, finishing seventh after posting rounds of 77-76-79=232.
UC's third-round 307 pushed the Bearcats (320-310-307=937) from third place into a tie for first with Morehead State (313-314-310=937). Cincinnati won on the tiebreaker, as its fifth score, Kate Moore's (Shepparton, Australia/Goulburn Valley Grammar) topped Morehead's fifth scorer, Emma Eksell, who posted a final-round 90.
Southern Mississippi was third with a 324-317-300=941.
Morehead State's Marisa Kamelgarn won medalist honors, finishing 75-78-70=223, one shot ahead of Murray State's Joyce Trus (74-74-76=224). The low round of the tournament went to Virginia Espejo, who fired a 69 in the third round.
Moore and teammate Bambee Dela Paz (Caloocan City, Philippines/Miriam College) finished tied for 16th. Moore posted rounds of 81-75-80=236, while Dela Paz fired 82-78-76=236.
Jenny Linville (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West) was one shot back at 80-81-76=237. Ashley Combs (Union, Ky./Ryle) placed in a tie for 38th after shooting 84-85-76=245.
The Bearcats are next in action at the MAC Preview in Indianapolis, Ind., on Oct. 12-13.
