Oct. 9, 2013
CINCINNATI - Senior Olivia Dose (Goteborg, Sweden/Goteborg Hogre Samskola) turned in a career-best three round score of 214 to finish second at the Price's "Give `Em Five" Invitational hosted by New Mexico State.
The senior was one of just five golfers to finish the tournament under par, carding a 2-under 71-73-70=214. The score betters her previous career-low score of 74-73-70=217 at the Clover Cup last spring. Dose played a bogey-free round Wednesday, picking up birdies on both the eighth and 15th holes to account for her 2-under par 70. She recorded eight birdies overall during the event.
Andrea Malek (Tibro, Sweden/Klippans Gymnasieskola) finished tied for 10th at the event with a 2-over 74-71-74=219, just one stroke shy of tying her three-round career low. Valentina Herrera (Bogota, Columbia) finished tied for 45th with a 77-75-77=229. Stefanie Mitchell (Sarasota, Fla./Riverview High School) recorded scores of 75-80-75=230 while Ashley Cassidy (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks) finished the tournament with rounds of 82-75-79=236)
As a team the Bearcats tied with Idaho for fifth place. Each squad shot identical scores of 296 Wednesday but were passed by Cal State Fullerton, who shot a 287 to finish third. Portland State captured the team title, passing UC Irvine on the final round.
The team score of 887 is a new three-round school record for the Bearcats, marking the first time in program history UC has shot a sub-900 round. The 887 is a 14-stroke improvement over the previous best mark of 901 recorded most recently last week at the Old Waverly Invitational. UC also totaled 901 during the 2010 season at the FIU Pat Bradley Invitational. The record is the second to fall this season for UC after setting a single-round team score record of 284 also at the Old Waverly Invitational.
"We are very proud of the team and their effort today," noted head coach Janet Carl. "The team let a few strokes slip away early but the team fought back and made some key birdies down the stretch. We hope to build on this solid start to our season."
