CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati women’s golf team is preparing to host the UC Spring Invitational March 22-24 in Crystal River, Fla., at the Plantation Inn Golf Resort and Spa. The spring tournament, which has run since 2006, will host the Bearcats and 16 other teams in its eighth consecutive season.
Joining the Bearcats will be Bradley, Embry Riddle, Daytona State, Fairleigh Dickinson, Florida Atlantic, Florida Gulf Coast, Florida Southern, North Dakota State, Oakland, Rutgers, Seminole State (Fla.), Seton Hall, University of Tampa, Alabama-Birmingham, Texas-Pan Am, and Xavier. FAU will play as the only returning former champion, having won the UC Spring Invitational crown in both 2007 and 2008. UAB is the only school, other than Cincinnati, to compete in all eight spring invitationals while FAU will be competing in their seventh and both FGCU and Rutgers will be participating in their sixth. Bradley, Daytona State, FDU, and UT Pan Am will all be making their first appearance in the UC Spring Invitational.
The Bearcats finished ninth at last season’s tournament, with their highest ever finish of second place coming in the inaugural 2006 season. UC has finished in fourth place three times, from 2007-09.
UC is led by junior Olivia Dose (Goteorg, Sweden/Goteborg Hogre Samskola) who is averaging 75.1 strokes per round through fall and spring play. The reigning Co-BIG EAST Player of the Week recorded a career-low three-round total 0f 217 (74-73-70) at the Clover Cup March 8-10.
The UC Spring Invitational will take place on the par-72 course. Each team will play three rounds, one on each day of competition, with the four lowest scores from each teams’ five golfers determining the team’s score each day. Teams will play start on a tee time on Friday and Saturday and on a shotgun start on Sunday.
The competition will kick off at 8:30 a.m. on Fri., March 22.
