CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati men's and women's golf teams each took advantage of their home golf course, as each team won the UC Spring Invitational at Elks Run Golf Course in Batavia, Ohio. The women, who shot a 943 as a team, won by a 47-stroke margin over second-place Butler University. Cincinnati's men finished the Invitational with a score of 899 over the three-day tournament and won by 26 shots.
The women were paced by freshman Bambee Dela Paz, who collected her first win by shooting a 228 through the three-day event. Dela Paz shot a plus-seven, 79 on the final day to outpace fellow Bearcat Marianne Erb by three shots to garner the victory. Erb shot a final round score of 73 to come in second-place in the Invitational. Rounding out the leaderboard for the Bearcats were Hillery Wilson who shot a 240 to finish tied for sixth place and Allison Mayborg finishing with a 246, tying her for 12th place.
The men were led by the trio of Joe Kastelic, Kane Volsky and Alberto Fernandez who shot a 223, 224, and 225, respectively. Their efforts placed them in fifth, sixth, and seventh place. Four shots behind Fernandez sat Ryan Cahill who finished with a 229 for the Invitational.
The men next compete on April 5-6 in the Marshall Invitational and the women will play in the Illini Spring Classic over the same dates.
