CINCINNATI, Ohio. – Former University of Cincinnati women’s golfer, Alex Carl, rallied to win her first Metropolitan Women’s Amateur Championship Thursday afternoon at Losantiville Country Club.
Carl, an All-BIG EAST standout, completed her eligibility at UC this spring. A previous two-time semifinalist at the tournament, Carl defeated Ashland University’s Ali Green, 2 and 1, in the match-play final.
"This is such a big confidence booster for her," said head coach Janet Carl, who coached her daughter at UC. "She was coming on at the end of her senior season and finished fifth at the Big East Tournament. Today, it was exciting just being her mom instead of her coach."
Carl took the lead on hole No. 15 and survived an out-of-bounds shot on 16 by making bogey. Her tee shot on 17 was straight.
"It's nice," noted Carl. "In golf, it's not always about wins and losses, but playing your best. And I played pretty well."
Incoming UC freshman Tara Liebert defeated Northern Kentucky University's Katie-Scarlett Skinner, 5 and 3, in the first flight championship.
Carl plans on beginning a two-year graduate program at the University of Southern Mississippi next month.
