POWELL, Ohio - University of Cincinnati golfers Alex Carl and Mackenzie Moir finished in a tie for 21st place at the 2012 PureSilk Women's Collegiate Team Championship on Thursday at Wedgewood Country Club.
The unique event, which uses three scoring formats for each of the three rounds to determine its champion, was won by the Tennessee tandem of A.J. Newell and Erica Popson after posting an even-par 144 in the combined scoring round three format.
Carl shot a 78, while Moir posted an 83 to round out the three-day competition. The Bearcats duo tied with Missouri (Kate Gallagher/Alina Rogers) and Ithaca (Kelsey Baker/Sharon Li) for 21st place at 16 over par for the tournament.
Carl is now set to participate in the 112th U.S. Amateur Championship, which begins on Aug. 6 with 156 of the best women golfers from around the world playing 36 holes of stroke play over two days. The low 64 players will then compete in match play from Aug. 8-12, with the champion determined by a 36-hole final match. The Country Club in Cleveland will host.
