ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Jamie Desautels (Westminster, Md./Westminster) and Lynsey Burton (Smithtown, N.Y./Ohio University) each scored two goals for the University of Cincinnati but the Bearcats were unable to snap Navy's unbeaten streak, losing 18-6 on the road. Navy improved to 4-0 overall, while Cincinnati fell to 1-4.
Navy wasted little time in jumping to an early lead against the Bearcats, scoring the game's first four goals in the first 3:16 of the contest. Desautels put Cincinnati's first point on the scoreboard when she scored off a feed from Jess Kazaks (Patchogue, N.Y./Ohio University) at the 26:13 mark of the first half. The Bearcats cut the lead to 5-2 with 23:42 to play in the first half when Lindsey Marshall (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) assisted Burton on her sixth goal of the season.
The Midshipmen responded with six straight goals in an eight-minute span to push Navy's lead to 11-2 with 14:09 to play. Burton scored on a free position shot and Natalie Starvaggi (Loveland, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) cut the lead to 12-4 with 6:57 to play, but Navy scored the final three goals of the half for a 15-4 halftime advantage.
Navy opened the second half by scoring the first three goals for an 18-4 advantage. Shannon Lynes (Ellicott City, Md./Ohio University) and Desautels tallied the last two goals of the game for Cincinnati, cutting the final margin to 18-6.
Navy outshot the Bearcats, 27-19, and won 17 draw controls to the Bearcats' nine. Cincinnati turned the ball over 20 times, while Navy had 19 miscues.
UC will play Duquesne at Nippert Stadium on Sunday, March 16 at 1 p.m.
