COLUMBUS – Lindsey Marshall (Hilliard, Ohio/Ohio) scored three goals for the University of Cincinnati lacrosse team, but Ohio State University, which cracked the national rankings this week at No. 18, earned a 20-8 victory over the visiting Bearcats on Wednesday evening at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
Ohio State traded goals with the Bearcats in the early going but pulled ahead, 6-4, by halftime. The Buckeyes went on to score 11 of the first 12 goals of the second half.
Marshall recorded her third hat trick of the season while Lynsey Burton (Smithtown, N.Y./Ohio), Laura Simanski (Reisterstown, Md./Roland Park, MacKenzie Parsons (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson), Natalie Starvaggi (Loveland, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) and Lauren Houck (Bel Air, Md./CM Wright) each recorded a goal for Cincinnati.
Ohio State improved to 5-1 overall while Cincinnati dropped to 4-2 on the year. The Bearcats will take on their second straight ranked opponent when they play No. 10 Vanderbilt on Sunday, March 15, at Nippert Stadium. Cincinnati will participate in the campaign to raise awareness for the fight against breast cancer by wearing pink jerseys when they play the Commodores at Noon.
