CINCINNATI - Lynsey Burton (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown West) scored three times for the Bearcats, but the University of Cincinnati lacrosse team (1-5) dropped a 16-7 decision to Duquesne on Sunday afternoon (March 16) at Nippert Stadium.
Sarah Carson scored four goals and Kathleen McNish added five assists to help Duquesne (2-6) to its second win of the year.
Carson scored just 35 seconds into the game to give the Dukes an early lead. McNish tallied the next two scores as Duquesne jumped out to a 5-0 lead.
Steph Cox (Pasadena, MD/Chesapeake) got the Bearcats on the board at the 9:10 mark. UC trailed 7-1 before Natalie Starvaggi (Loveland, OH/Mount Notre Dame) and Lindsey Marshall (Hilliard, OH/Hilliard Davidson) scored consecutively.
Sarah Cates answered for the Dukes at the 19:55 mark of the first half to extend the Duquesne lead to 8-3, but Burton scored less than two minutes later to trim the lead to four.
Carson gave Duquesne a 9-4 lead with eight seconds left before the half on her second goal of the game.
Duquesne scored seven of the next eight goals to take a 16-5 lead with 13 minutes to go.
Burton and Shannon Lynes (Elliot, MD/River Hill) scored for the Bearcats to produce the final margin.
The Bearcats will travel to Denver to take on the Pioneers on March 21 at 4 p.m. ET.
