WASHINGTON, D.C. – The University of Cincinnati lacrosse team lost, 18-6, to No. 7/6 Georgetown on Saturday afternoon at the Multi-Sport Field in a BIG EAST contest.
The Hoyas (11-4, 6-1 BIG EAST) jumped out to a 4-0 lead before Ali Mattingly (Davidsonville, Md./South River) scored an unassisted goal for Cincinnati (5-10, 0-7 BIG EAST) at the 22:43 mark of the first period. Mattingly scored again after two goals by Georgetown, with 13:33 remaining in the period. Lindsey Marshall (Hilliard, Ohio/Ohio) scored 31 seconds later, forcing the Hoyas to call a timeout. Georgetown regrouped and rattled off six more goals to take a 12-3 lead into halftime.
Lynsey Burton (Smithtown, N.Y./Ohio) scored UC’s first goal of the second period after four goals by Georgetown, making the score 16-4 with 12:31 left in the game. The Hoyas scored their final two goals over the next seven minutes and UC closed out the scoring in the game with a free position goal by Jenn Doran (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) and a goal from Laura Simanski (Reisterstown, Md./Roland Park).
The Bearcats return to action tomorrow with a Noon game against LeMoyne at St. Paul’s School for Girls in Brooklandville, Md.
