Borzillo Wins Third Freshman of the Week Honor

– After a dazzling week that saw her tie a pair of school records, University of Cincinnati lacrosse player Monica Borzillo (Devon, Pa./Conestoga) has been named the BIG EAST Freshman of the Week as announced by the league on Tuesday. It is the third such honor for Borzillo this season.

The attacker led the Bearcats with 13 points on five goals and eight assists in two games last weekend. In a narrow 15-14 defeat at Detroit, she tied two program records with five assists and eight total points while adding her third-career hat trick. She became just the second player in Cincinnati history to record three goals and five assists in a game, joining Katie Kiriazoglou (2010-13) who did so three times in 2010 and 2011.

Borzillo scored twice and dished out three assists in a dominant 15-4 victory at Central Michigan on Sunday and has scored at least two goals in each game of her collegiate career.

After six games played, Borzillo ranks eighth in the NCAA with 2.50 assists per game, 10th with 5.00 points per game and 15th with 15 total assists.

It is the third Freshman of the Week honor in four weeks of the season for Borzillo who also won the award on Feb. 21 and 28.

The Bearcats will finally return to Cincinnati on Friday, March 17, for their home-opener against Gardner-Webb at 5 p.m.
