CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati lacrosse team (3-2) hosts Iona (4-2) in its home opener on Saturday, March 17 at 12 p.m. at Nippert Stadium. Admission is free or fans can watch the game live on GoBEARCATS.com.
BEARCATS AGAINST THE GAELS
The Bearcats have never played Iona.
The Gaels are 4-2 after Navy ended its three-game winning, 19-8, on March 12. Iona is led by Kylie Gregory with a team-high 24 points on 18 goals and six assists. Three goaltenders have started in net for the Gaels, but Maria Ortiz has recorded the most time in goal. She has a 3.98 goals against average and .667 saves percentage.
LAST TIME OUT
Junior attack Marissa Pierson netted a career-high four goals and led the University of Cincinnati lacrosse team (3-2) to a 13-8 victory against Liberty on March 4 in the first meeting between the two teams at Liberty Lacrosse Field. Senior midfielder Laura Simanski registered her fourth-straight multi-goal game with two goals and one assists, while leading scorer Katie Kiriazoglou finished with a game-high six points (3g, 3a).
Three of UC’s opponents are teams in which a Bearcats coaching staff member has either played on or coached. Assistant coach Breanna Stiff is a graduate of Syracuse, while fellow assistant coach Lauren Gunning attended Connecticut and held her last coaching stint at Iona.
