The University of Cincinnati surrendered an early first half goal to Marshall University on Friday afternoon at Gettler Stadium, but the Bearcats clawed back to net a pair of goals and defeat the Herd, 2-1, in a friendly.

Sophomore transfer Mackenzie Reynolds evened the match in the 23rd minute. Reynolds, who came to UC from Tennessee, headed in the equalizer off a rebound. Emily Elsbrock and Jae Atkinson were credited with the assists.

UC recorded 13 shots on the day with Atkinson leading the way with three.

Seconds before the first half ended, Mackenzie Grause gave the Bearcats a 2-1 lead as she tapped in a botched save by Marshall's goalkeeper. Grause's goal was setup by Laura Rose and Megan Cravenor.

The Bearcats hit the road to begin the 2013 season. The season opener is slated for Friday, August 23 in Miami, Fla. versus the Hurricanes with kickoff at 5:30 p.m. Stafford and company then travel to Lincoln, Neb. For a Sunday match against the Cornhuskers.
