Women's Soccer Shuts Out Ohio, 2-0|
Aug. 25, 2007
ATHENS, Ohio - The University of Cincinnati women's soccer team finished its 2007 exhibition season with a 2-0 shutout of the Ohio Bobcats and finished the preseason with a record of 2-1. Sophomore Melissa Bigg (Limehouse, Ont./Acton) and freshman Venessa Hardin (Westerville, OH/Central) each scored a goal for UC while sophomore Andrea Kaminski (Noblesville, IN/Noblesville) turned away five Bobcat shots.
After a scoreless first half, UC's Bigg netted the game's first goal at the 58:40 mark off a free kick from near midfield from senior defender Gigi Ernst. Bigg corralled the long pass on the backside of the net and buried it with her foot.
Just over 10 minutes later at 69:31, Hardin scored an insurance goal that was started by a corner kick. Hardin was set up by junior forward Kristin May (Hudson, OH/Walsh Jesuit) who returned a carom off a Bobcat clearing pass.
The shutout is the second of the preseason for Kaminski who played the second half of the Eastern Kentucky shutout on Aug. 21.
The regular season opens on Aug. 31 at Gettler Stadium when UC takes on crosstown rival Xavier. It will be a special night, as the Bearcats will honor former UC women's soccer player, Vanessa Antrobus Quinn, a victim of the Trolley Square Shopping Mall shootings in Utah in February.
