Bearcats Suffer Overtime Loss to Vanderbilt

The University of Cincinnati women's soccer team lost a heartbreaker on Friday night in Nashville, Tennessee as Vanderbilt handed the Bearcats their first loss of the season in a 3-2 overtime thriller. Sophomore Katy Couperus netted both goals for UC.

After falling behind 1-0 in the first half, the Bearcats came storming back early in the second half behind two Couperus goals. UC would not sustain the 2-1 lead though as the Commodores knotted up the score in the 81st minute and eventually forced overtime. In the 98th minute, Colby Ciarrocca broke Cincinnati's heart as she drove home the game-winning goal.

Charley took a strike from the right side of the 18-yard box and beat Natalie Smith to the lower left and snuck the ball inside the far post. VANDY 1, CIN 0

CIN - Katy Couperus (Jae Atkinson), 54th
Atkinson setup a corner kick on the right side of the field and serviced a ball to the far post. Vanderbilt's keeper deflected the corner, but Couperus was there for the rebound and dribbled the ball into the bottom left corner. CIN 1, VANDY 1

CIN - Katy Couperus (unassisted), 66th
Couperus lined up a free kick following a Commodores' foul and fired a shot into the bottom right corner of the goal to give UC the lead. CIN 2, VANDY 1

VANDY - Colby Ciarrocca (Cristina De Zeeuw), 81st
De Zeeuw came down the right wing and serviced a ball to the near post, where Ciarrocca headed in the game-tying goal. VANDY 2, CIN 2

Simone Charley dribbled into the box and dropped off a pass to Colby Ciarrocca on the left wing. Ciarrocca then drove home the game-winning goal. VANDY 3, CIN 2
