Despite having a number of chances throughout the match, the University of Cincinnati couldn't contain the Dayton Flyers as they fell 3-0 on Friday night.

The Bearcats had a number of quality chances in the first half as the UC forwards kept constant pressure on the Flyers' backline and goalkeeper.

In the 29th minute Cincinnati quickly transitioned good defense into good offense by clearing a ball from inside their box and taking a one player advantage to the other end. The Bearcats connected all the way down the field with Laura Rose taking a strike from 15 yards out, but the sophomore forward's strike faded to the right of the goal.

The offensive pressure continued into the final 10 minutes of action as late substitute Emily Elsbrock scared the Flyers with two close chances. The senior's first chance trickled past the left post, while the second was a header into the keeper's hands in the 43rd.

The closest chance UC had came from a distant strike by Mackenzie Reynolds in the 37th minute. The sophomore transfer's shot from over 20 yards out soared over the keeper but bounced off the crossbar.

Cincinnati finished the first half with 12 total shots with three on net.

The UC defense was also strong in the opening half as Natalie Smith came up with three crucial saves. The biggest save came in the 34th minute prior to Reynolds' strike.

A Flyers' forward snuck behind the Bearcats' defensive core and had a one-on-one chance versus Smith. With the opposing player approaching, the redshirt freshman came out of goal and made a sliding save by batting the ball away.

Dayton broke the tie in the 64th minute as Juliana Libertin went baseline and crossed a ball into the box. Waiting on the other end was Chelsea Rose with a one-timer by Smith.

The Flyers tacked on another just 43 seconds later as Nicole Waters made a running strike that blurred by Smith to make the score 2-0.

The Flyers would add one more goal in the 77th minute on a penalty kick by Libertin.

Cincinnati was able to net a goal in the 89th minute as Katie Greer floated a ball over the Dayton goalkeeper to put the score to 3-1, which was the final.

The Bearcats play again on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. They play host to UMass Lowell at Gettler Stadium for their first home match of the year.
