Cincinnati Plays Miami to Draw|
Sept. 2, 2007
CINCINNATI-- The University of Cincinnati women's soccer team remained undefeated on the young 2007 season with a 1-1 draw against local rival Miami (OH) on a sunny Sunday afternoon (Sept. 2) at Gettler Stadium.
Two days over a hard-fought, emotional 2-1 double-overtime win against crosstown rival Xavier, the Bearcats played 110 minutes on the steamy pitch.
Sophomore Melissa Bigg (Limehouse, Ontario/Acton) scored her first career career goal in the 31st minute to give UC a 1-0 lead. Classmate Heather Neiser (Batavia, OH/St. Ursula) served a free kick into the box, which found the foot of fellow sophomore Erin MacDonald (St. Catharine's, Ontario/West Park Secondary). MacDonald played the ball through to a streaking Bigg, who beat Miami keeper Krista Pace for her first tally.
Miami pulled even in the 55th minute when Julie Thompson lofted a shot over UC keeper Andrea Kaminski (Noblesville, IN/Noblesville). After taking a pass from Elsen Courtney, Thompson pulled Kaminski out of her net and chipped her shot over the UC sophomore to knot the score at 1-1.
The Bearcats and RedHawks played a pair of scoreless overtime frames. Kaminski made four saves for UC, while her counterpart, Pace, made six for the RedHawks.
UC travels to Ann Arbor to take on Michigan on Friday, Sept. 7. Kickoff between the Bearcats and Wolverines is set for 7 p.m.
