The University of Cincinnati women’s soccer team put together a solid performance in the crosstown rivalry versus Xavier, but the Musketeers shutout the Bearcats to win, 3-0.

Despite controlling the pace of play, Xavier got on the board first. In the 15th minute, Maggie Hare settled a pass at the top of the box and struck the ball into the upper right corner.

Laura Rose was the most lethal offensive player in the first half for UC as she put two shots on net. The most threatening strike came in the 30th minute as she blasted a ball to the far left post, but XU’s goalkeeper made a ridiculous save to keep the one-goal lead.

The Musketeers added another goal just before half in the 41st minute as the Bearcats were called for a foul in the box, which resulted in a penalty shot for XU. Lauren Heap took the shot and slipped it into the lower left corner past a diving Kristina Utley.

Prior to the first half versus Xavier, the Bearcats had only allowed two goals in the first half all season.

The second half looked much like the first as UC controlled possession in their offensive third. The Bearcats were able to generate six corner kicks and take eight shots, but they were unable to get the ball by the XU keeper and get on the board.

Xavier capped off the scoring in the 66th minute on a scramble by the left post, which XU tapped in to take a 3-0 advantage.

The Bearcats return to action on Sunday at Gettler Stadium versus Kent State. The match is slated to kickoff at 1 p.m. ET.
