The University of Cincinnati women’s soccer team rallied from being down two goals to force overtime versus Memphis and pullout a 3-2 victory. Sophomore Mackenzie Reynolds netted the game-winning goal with just under five minutes remaining in the second overtime.

Cincinnati (5-7-0, 1-1-0 AAC) was initially down 2-0 just 20 minutes into the match as they allowed back-to-back goals in the 19th minute, but the perseverance of the UC players prospered late in the second half to setup Reynolds’ game winner in overtime.

In the 106th minute, Danielle Rotheram battled her way to the right end line and crossed a low ball into the box. Her cross was met by a streaking Reynolds at the near post and flicked by the Memphis goalkeeper for the game-winning goal.

The Bearcats were outshot 8-3 in the first half, but they wore down the Tigers’ defense to generate 16 shots the rest of the game while Memphis had just five.

In the 78th minute, Laura Rose took a deflected pass down the left side of the field and serviced a beautiful cross into the box. Waiting on the other end was Rotheram, who speared the ball into the back of the net with her head to begin the Bearcats’ comeback.

Rose completed the comeback just 10 minutes later as she netted the game-tying goal.

In the 88th minute, Elsbrock hurled a long throw in into the 18-yard box and found the head of junior Megan Cravenor, who flicked the ball backwards. Carvenor’s flick fell to the feet of Rose at the middle of the box, and the sophomore forward struck home the equalizer.

Redshirt freshman Natalie Smith received the start in goal for the fifth consecutive match and garnered her fourth win of the season. Smith had four saves on the day for UC.

The Bearcats hop back on the road next weekend as they travel to face SMU and Houston. The squad’s match versus Houston is Thursday night at 8 p.m. ET, while their match with SMU is slated to begin at 2 p.m. ET.
