PISCATAWAY, N.J. — The University of Cincinnati women’s soccer team was defeated by Rutgers University 5-0 Sunday afternoon at Yurcak Field.

Cincinnati allowed five goals in the match’s first 50 minutes, which included four in the first half, before holding the Scarlet Knights scoreless in the final 40.

Rutgers redshirt junior forward and Canadian national team member Jonelle Filigno, who entered the day ranked second in the BIG EAST Conference in goals scored, paced the Scarlet Knights offensive attack with two goals.

Cincinnati struggled to get into an offensive flow as the Bearcats were outshot 20-7. Seven different Bearcats attempted one shot, led by shots on goal from sophomore forward Mackenzie Grause (Ft. Thomas, Ky./Highlands), senior forward Liz Miller (Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson/College of Charleston) and freshman forward Ambri Johnson (Cincinnati, Ohio/Winton Woods).

In the 14th minute, Filigno scored her 13th goal of the season after she took a chip from redshirt senior forward April Price from the left sideline and scored from six yards out for a 1-0 RU lead.

RU redshirt senior forward Tricia Dipaolo scored her first goal of the year in the 25th minute to put UC behind by two goals. After receiving a corner kick from freshman forward Rachel Cole on the right sideline, Dipaolo connected on a shot from 23 yards out that sailed over UC sophomore goalkeeper Kristina Utley (Castro Valley, Calif./Castro Valley) and into the net.

Utley ended the match with seven saves while Rutgers redshirt senior goalkeeper Emmy Simpkins recorded two saves in 81:09 of play and redshirt junior Jessica Janosz tallied one stop in 8:51 of action.

Eight minutes later, Filigno produced goal No. 14 of the season when she headed a pass from Dipaolo from the right sideline into the back post for a three-goal Rutgers advantage. Cole would give the Knights a 4-0 lead before halftime when she succeeded on a penalty kick in the 43rd minute.

Rutgers scored its fifth goal in the 50th minute when senior midfielder Maura McLaughlin scored her first goal of the year after making a shot from 12 yards out. RU Sophomore forward Cassie Inacio and redshirt senior forward April Price were credited with assists on the play.

Cincinnati will end regular-season play Friday, Oct. 19, with a 7 p.m. ET matchup at University of Louisville.
