CINCINNATI, Ohio-The University of Cincinnati women's soccer team continued their spring season today as they traveled to West Virginia University to participate in the 2006 Betty Puskar Breast Care Center Soccer Invitational Tournament. The Bearcats first squared off against Duquesne University, playing to a 0-0 draw. In the second match of the day, UC faced BIG EAST rival Pittsburgh and lost the match 1-0. In the third and final match of the day, the Bearcats took on the Thundering Herd of Marshall University, drawing their second tie of the day at 0-0.

In the first match of the day, UC took on Duquesne, ending in a 0-0 tie. A good offensive effort was put forth by the Bearcats, who dominated the majority of the game. UC had many scoring opportunities, even hitting off of DU's post, but ultimately having the ball fail to find the back of the net. Both UC and DU put up impressive defensive fronts, resulting in the 0-0 draw.

The Bearcats took on BIG EAST rival Pittsburgh in the second match of the day. After very physical play, Pitt headed a ball off of a set piece which slipped through Bearcat goalkeeper Andrea Bouldin's hands, giving Pitt a 1-0 lead. Despite a well fought match, UC was unable to retaliate, giving Pitt the win.

In the third and final match of the day, UC took on the Thundering Herd of Marshall. Another strong, dominating performance from the Bearcats was evident, as both offense and defensive sides of the ball stepped up their play. UC was unable to penetrate MU's strong defense, however, as the Bearcat defense banned together as well resulting in the 0-0 tie, the second of the day.

"The total team defending was good," commented Head Coach Meridy Glenn. "We made good improvements from last week's game and we will continue to improve and work on our offensive play."

The 2006 Betty Puskar Breast Care Center Soccer Invitational Tournament was created to raise awareness and funds for the Betty Puskar Breast Care Center. Each team was asked to contribute a minimum of $100. The Bearcats raised and donated over $750 to the care center.

The Bearcats will continue their spring season on Saturday, April 15th as they host the Blue Chip Showcase at Gettler Stadium. The showcase will feature UC, Ohio State, Louisville, and Vanderbilt. The Bearcats will face off against Ohio State at 4:30, followed by the match up between Louisville and Vanderbilt at 6:30.
