CINCINNATI, Ohio -- Six 2004 NCAA College Cup participants, including defending national champion Notre Dame, highlight the University of Cincinnati women's soccer team's 2005 schedule. The Bearcats will play one of the most difficult schedules in the country in their first season in the BIG EAST Conference, with its opponents owning a combined .594 winning percentage in 2004.
UC opens its slate at home against 2004 NCAA College Cup participant William & Mary on Aug. 26 followed by a visit from Big Ten representative Michigan State. The Bearcats then hit the road for the Dayton Invitational in which they will play Ohio State and the host Flyers, both NCAA tournament teams last season. The BIG EAST opener comes on Sept. 15 against longtime rival Louisville. Xavier then visits Gettler stadium in the second of back-to-back rivalry matches. The highlight of the schedule will be the Sept. 23 date with defending national champion Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind. The Bearcats will round out the regular season with four straight home matches, finishing with Seton Hall on Oct. 23. The BIG EAST Tournament will begin at campus sites on Oct. 28. The semifinals and final will take place on Nov. 4 and Nov. 6, respectively, at Valley Fields in Milwaukee, Wis.
"We are very excited about playing in the BIG EAST, one of the top five conferences in the nation," head coach Meridy Glenn stated. "This is where our program wants to be."
UC holds a 99-48-7 (.666) all-time record against its 2005 opponents, including nearly identical records against its two lengthiest rivals, Xavier (19-3-0) and Lousiville (17-3-1). The 2005 season will mark the Bearcats' first meeting with Providence, Georgetown and Seton Hall on the soccer field.
