CINCINNATI, Ohio -- Cincinnati women's soccer signee Melissa Bigg (Limehouse, Ontario/Acton) has been named one of the top 20 international recruits in 2006 by SoccerBuzz.com. The 5-6 midfielder from Limehouse, Ontario, is a member of the Canadian National U-18 team pool and attended the national team camp in April.
"Melissa is motivated to compete at the highest possible level," head coach Meridy Glenn said. "That is a reflection on her character and passion for the game. She is the kind of student-athlete we are attracting to this program."
Bigg is just one of three BIG EAST recruits to be honored by SoccerBuzz. She led Acton High School to two conference finals and won a Canadian National Championship in 2005 with her Erin Mills Eagles club team. Bigg currently plays for the Toronto Lynx, and will again lead Erin Mills as they open the 2006 Ontario Cup quarterfinals on July 23.
"My participation in the national training camp program provided me with opportunities to train with the Canadian U-18 national team as well as invitation to the Toronto Lynx W-league team," Bigg said. "I feel that my physical fitness has improved, which has enhanced my performance on the field. I am very excited about playing for the Bearcats this fall."
Bigg plans to major in education at UC and will wear No. 28 for the Bearcats.
