CINCINNATI, Ohio -- The University of Cincinnati women?s soccer team has been selected as the favorite to win the Conference USA regular season title in a poll of the league's 14 head coaches.

?It means a lot because our colleagues have given us a tremendous amount of respect, but also a tremendous amount of responsibility," head coach Meridy Glenn said of the lofty ranking. ?It is a challenge, and I accept that challenge.?

Cincinnati fields a veteran team this season, returning 16 letterwinners and seven starters from last year's 17-4-3 squad. Making their second consecutive appearance in the NCAA College Cup after winning the C-USA tournament.

?It is an awesome compliment,? Glenn added. ?We are going to have to train hard and put all our energy into our conference opponents.?

Senior midfielder Tasha Wagner (Middletown, OH/Middletown HS) was named to the pre-season all-conference team. Wagner led the Bearcats with 10 assists and was second with 18 points last season. She was named C-USA Tournament Offensive MVP after scoring the winning goal against Marquette in the championship match.

?Tasha performs when people expect a lot out of her,? Glenn said of Wagner's nomination. ?She is one of our captains, and having her on the team represents Cincinnati very well. We?re proud of her.?

The Bearcats open the season at home against Toledo on Aug. 29 at 7 p.m.
