CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati women’s soccer team returns home to play host to Central Michigan University in an exhibition match on Friday, Aug. 15. The 7 p.m. match marks the first home contest of 2008 for the Bearcats.
Cincinnati will look to improve on their first performance of the year, a 1-0 defeat of Western Carolina on August 11. UC’s lone goal was credited to freshman Julie Morrissey (Abington, Mass./Tabor Academy) in the 20th minute from a pass by Chelsea Kindschuh (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota East).
Head coach Michelle Salmon believes there were many positives to take out of the prior match, as well as things to work on. “Coming out of Western Carolina I thought we played well for about fifty of the ninety minutes and did some nice things and started playing the kind of soccer we have been working on all preseason. We’ve been working on our defensive shape, going into Central Michigan we’re looking to be more consistent and put a ninety minute game together. With this being so early in the season it’s going to be hard to obtain a ninety-minute game, but at the same time every time we step onto the field, we’re looking to get better."
The Bearcats will next take the field on August 22, when they welcome another Mid-American Conference opponent in Bowling Green for the regular season opener. The match is set to take place at 7 p.m.
