Women's Soccer Defeats No. 12 Florida, 2-1
Bearcats Score Two Goals In Second Half To Pull Off Upset

CINCINNATI, Ohio - The University of Cincinnati women's soccer team improved to 2-0 on the young season with a 2-1 victory over No. 12 Florida at Meyers Field on Sunday. The Bearcats used goals by Renee Balconi (Westerville, Ohio/ Westerville North) and Amy Simonson (Cincinnati, Ohio/ Princeton) to come back from a 1-0 first-half deficit.
Florida scored the only goal of the first half when Crystal Frimpong took a long pass from Stephanie Freeman, made a couple of nicemoves and slid the ball past UC goalkeeper Tracy Hale (Westerville, Ohio/ Westerville South).
The score remained 1-0 until Balconi headed in a corner kick from Rachel Lieberman (Cincinnati, Ohio/ Walnut Hills) to tie the game at one 59 seconds into the second half. The Bearcats took the lead with just over 30 minutes remaining when Simonson netted her second goal of the season. Simonson headed a cross from Tasha Wagner (Middletown, Ohio/ Middletown) just over Florida goalkeeper Jordan Kellgren, giving Cincinnati a 2-1 lead.
Hale made two saves in the game to earn her second victory of the season. The Bearcats outshot the Gators 10-8 for the game.
Cincinnati returns to action at Meyers Field on Thurs., Sept. 5 when the Indiana Hoosiers vist at 7 p.m.
