The University of Cincinnati women?s soccer team had it?s four-match winning streak snapped after a 1-0 loss at home to Butler. With the defeat, the Bearcats slip to 7-3, while Butler ups it?s record to 8-3.
The Bearcats and Bulldogs played to a scoreless first half, despite UC advantages in shots (7-2) and corner kicks (5-0). But the Bulldogs came out strong in the second half, netting what would prove to be the match-winner just 4:07 into the second session. Amy Morrison found the back of the net after a corner kick by Annie Doerr. Doerr served the ball to Kristin Drogell who found Morrison for the goal.
Statistically, UC dominated the match in every category except the most important one. The Bearcats outshout Butler by a final count of 15-3 and held the edge in corner kicks 12-1. UC made the last two minutes exciting, getting off three corner kicks in the final 1:50 of the match, but could not convert the equalizer.
?I have every faith that we will rebound from this,? said Bearcat coach Meridy Glenn. ?The kids know the first half wasn?t a pretty half, but they have the ability and talent. We made it exciting at the end, down to the last 30 seconds and still knocking on the door. These are always tough lessons to learn.?
The Bearcats will continue their week of non-league contests on Sunday, Oct. 7. UC will head north to face Toledo at 2 p.m.
