ROCHESTER, MICH. -- Cincinnati women's soccer team lost to Oakland University 5-1 on Sunday. Cincinnati falls to 3-8-1 on the season, while Oakland improves to 7-3-1.
Senior Kristina Wilson (Cincinnati, Ohio/Glen Este) scored the lone Bearcat goal, her first of the season, when she headed in a corner kick by Tasha Wagner (Middletown, Ohio/Middletown) seven minutes into the second half.
"Tasha served a great ball, and Kristina finished it well," head coach Meridy Glenn said. "Tasha was incredible for 90 minutes. We just hope that carries into our conference game on Friday."
Oakland scored their first goal in the fifth minute of the game when Marianne Samdal sent a free kick past UC keeper Sherry Slye (Cincinnati, Ohio/Roger Bacon). Samdal scored again 12 minutes later off a pass from Silje Peltoper. Kristi Swaving scored the first of her three goals when she headed a cross from Shelly Piccirillo into the net to put Oakland up 3-0 at the half.
Swaving scored again 10 minutes into the second half off a breakaway pass from Peltoper, and netted the last goal of the game four minutes later to make the final score 5-1.
"I thought we played a better second half than we have in a while," Glenn added. "We started moving the ball around much better, and Rachel Lieberman (Cincinnati, Ohio/Walnut Hills) and Tracy Hale (Westerville, Ohio/Westerville South) stepped in and played well."
The Bearcats return home to host Conference USA foe Marquette on Friday at 7 P.M.
