Bearcats Outshot 13-6, Still Manage To Notch 12th Shutout

COLUMBUS, Ohio ? Tianna Oliver scored the game?s only goal 18 minutes into the match and the Bearcat defense made it stand for the team's 13th shutout of the year as the University of Cincinnati upended Ohio State, 1-0, in women's soccer action on Saturday afternoon in Columbus.
The Bearcats improved to 13-3-3 while OSU is now 7-10-1.
UC posted the game's only goal when Amy Simonson gathered a loose ball and played it ahead to Oliver at the top of the penalty box. Oliver put a move on one defender and let a left-foot shot rip into the top corner of the net. Simonson almost scored a goal of her own three minutes later, but OSU goalkeeper Anna Mitchell made a nice diving save. UC took the 1-0 lead into the half.
Ohio State dominated the second half of play, outshooting UC 11-0, but was unable to score. The Buckeyes threatened 17 minutes into the second half when UC goalkeeper Tracy Hale robbed OSU's Grubb on a shot attempt in the left corner of the goal.
Ohio State had a flurry of opportunities with 12 minutes remaining in the game. The Buckeyes had three straight corner kicks, including one that produced two shots. Hale found herself out of the goal and blocked one shot. OSU gathered the rebound and but UC's Renee Balconi headed away an Emily Gilbert shot to end the rally.
Hale turned in another stellar effort in the goal, making seven saves to record her 11th shutout of the season.
The Bearcats begin play as the number two seed in next week's Conference USA tournament. UC will open play on Tuesday, Nov. 9 in Charlotte, N.C against the seventh seed. Pairings for the tournament will be announced on Sunday evening.
