Tennis Beats Toledo 4-3 in Season Opener|

CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati women's tennis team picked up a 4-3 win in their first match of the season versus the University of Toledo Friday afternoon at the Western Tennis & Fitness Club.
Cincinnati picked up three singles wins from sophomore No. 1 Kelly Poggensee-Wei (Lake Villa, Ill. /Grayslake North), senior No. 3 Caitlin O'Gara (Springsboro, Ohio/Bishop Fenwick), and senior No. 2 Ashleigh Witte (West Chester, Ohio/ Lakota West).
Poggensee-Wei got UC on the board first with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over UT's Chrissy Coffman in the top spot. O'Gara also took care of her opponent beating Emily Mazzola 6-1, 6-3 in the third position. On court No. 3, Witte downed Pia Rygh 6-4, 6-4 to seal the victory for the Bearcats.
The Bearcats took the doubles point with wins on two of the three courts. O'Gara and Poggensee-Wei defeated Katelyn Nguyen and Pia Rygh 6-2 in the top position. Witte and freshman Lauren Bellinger (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Jerome) fell 6-3 to Mazzola and Lexy Pitt in the second slot, while Sierra Sullivan (Austin, Texas/The Khabele School) and Katya Bure (Springfield, N.J./Jonathon Dayton) took down Mackenzie Bowman and Lauren Thai 6-4 in the third spot.
In other singles action, sophomore Hannah Wille (St. Louis, Mo./Parkway Central) was beat by Pitt 7-5, 6-1 on court No. 6. Bure lost to Katelyn Nguyen 6-2, 7-5 as the fourth seed, and Bellinger fell to Bowman 7-5, 6-4 in the fifth position.
UC is back in action tomorrow, Sat., January 18th, with a match against the University of Kentucky. Doubles action will begin at 10 a.m. in Lexington.
