Women's Tennis Swept by No. 40 Indiana|

CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati women's tennis team lost a 7-0 decision to No. 40 Indiana University Saturday afternoon at the Western Tennis & Fitness Club.
The Hoosiers got off to a 1-0 lead early after sweeping all three doubles matches. Senior Caitlin O'Gara (Springboro, Ohio/Bishop Fenwick) and sophomore Kelly Poggensee-Wei (Lake Villa, Ill./Grayslake North) dropped a heart-breaker to Carolyn Chupa and Katie Klyczek. The Indiana duo was up 5-3 before UC's tandem came back to force a tie-breaker but eventually lost 7-6 (2). Senior Ashleigh Witte (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West) and freshman Lauren Bellinger (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Jerome) fell to Kayla Fujimoto and Sohpie Garre 6-3. On court No. 3, freshman Katya Bure (Springfield, N.J./Jonathon Dayton) and senior Sierra Sullivan (Austin, Texas/The Khabele School) lost to Alecia Klauss and Shannon Murdy 6-1.
Indiana took all six points from the Bearcats in singles play. Paula Gutierrez defeated sophomore Hannah Wille (St. Louis, Mo./Parkway Central) 6-0, 6-0 to give the Hoosiers their second point of the day. IU got their third point when O'Gara fell to Kauss 6-1, 6-0 in the third position.
On court No. 4, Bellinger fell in a tight match against Shannon Murdy. Bellinger took the first set 6-2 before falling in the next set 6-1 and eventually losing the tie-breaker 10-5. Bure started off her match with a 3-0 lead before Garre ended up winning the set 6-3. Garre then took the next set by a score of 6-2. While all other action was finished, all eyes were turned to court No. 1 where Poggensee-Wei was trailing Klyczek 6-4, 5-3. Poggensee-Wei battled to tie the second set up at five games apiece before falling 7-5. Gabby Rubenstein defeated Sullivan in an exhibition match 6-1, 6-1 on court No. 6. Indiana improves to 2-0 on the season after beating Xavier earlier in the day.
The Bearcats loss moves them to 1-2 on the season after playing two nationally ranked teams in a row. Cincinnati will look to bounce back on Friday, Jan. 31, when they host Abilene Christian at 6 p.m. at the Western Tennis & Fitness Club.
