Tennis Suffers Setback to Abilene Christian|

CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati women's tennis team lost a tough encounter with Abilene Christian by a 4-3 decision on Friday night at the Western Tennis & Fitness Club.
The Wildcats took the doubles point with wins in two of the three matches. The first match ended with Freshman Katya Bure (Springfield N.J./Jonathon Dayton) and senior Sierra Sullivan (Austin,Texas/The Khabele School) defeating Nada Marjanovic and Emily Conrad 6-2. Senior Ashleigh Witte (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West) and freshman Lauren Bellinger (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Jerome) fell to Brittney Reed and Erin Walker 6-3 on court No. 2. The deciding match then fell to court No. 1 where Kaysie Hermsdorf and Micah Hermsdorf took down senior Caitlin O'Gara (Springboro, Ohio/Bishop Fenwick) and sophomore Kelly Poggensee-Wei (Lake Villa, Ill./Grayslake North) in a back-and-forth match 6-4.
In singles action, Cincinnati tied the match up at 1 point apiece when Bure won her first career collegiate dual singles match when she defeated Kaysie Hermsdorf 6-1, 6-3 in the fourth position. The Bearcats added another point to take the lead 2-1 when Witte defeated Erin Walker 6-1, 6-2 on court No. 3. UC took a 3-1 lead when Bellinger battled back to down Marjanovic for the first collegiate singles dual win of her career. The sophomore was down 4-1 in the first set before winning 7-6 (5), 6-1.
The Wildcats got two points when Poggensee-Wei fell to Micah Hermsdorf 7-5, 6-1 on court No. 1 and O'Gara was defeated by Reed in the second position 6-2, 7-5. In the final and deciding match of the night, Hannah Wille (St. Louis, Mo./Parkway Central) lost a tough match, falling 6-0 in the first set before a long battle in the second set where she eventually was beat 6-4.
Cincinnati falls to 1-3 on the season with the loss while Abilene Christian improves to 2-0 after beating Wright State earlier Friday.
The Bearcats will look to get back on the winning track tomorrow, Sat., February 1, when they play Miami (Oh). Doubles action will start at 2 p.m. in Hamilton.
