CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati women’s tennis team put on a dominating show on Tuesday, downing Northern Kentucky University 7-0 at the Western Tennis and Fitness Club. Senior Jasmine Lee (Canton, Ohio/Glen Oak) led the way for the Bearcats, recording a singles and a doubles victory in the match.
The team kicked off the match with three doubles wins to secure a 1-0 lead. Lee and senior Caitlin O’Gara (Springboro, Ohio/Bishop Fenwick) topped NKU’s Marta Romeo and Shana Kleynen 8-2 on court No. 1 while the junior duo or Ashleigh Witte (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West) and Sierra Sullivan (Austin, Texas/Khabele School) shut out Holly Robinson and Kristina Abromovich 8-0 in the second position. The Bearcats picked up another victory when NKU had to default the third doubles match due to injury.
In singles action, Sullivan and Lee each made quick work, picking up 6-0, 6-0. Sullivan won against Jamie Diaz and Lee beat Romeo on courts six and one, respectively. Witte followed with a 6-0, 6-0 victory of her own over Kleynen on court No. 3 to clinch the match victory for the Bearcats. Sophomore Kristina Georgiva then disposed of Abromovich 6-1, 6-0 in the fifth position before freshman Hannah Wille topped Robinson 6-1, 6-1 on court No. 4. O’Gara had to withstand a furious comeback from Claire Spradlin on court No. 2, but eventually won 6-0, 6-4
The victory was the second in a row for the Bearcats and the sixth of the season.
UC will be back in action on Thurs., March 28 when it visits crosstown rival Xavier for a 3 p.m. match.
