MILWAUKEE, Wis. - The University of Cincinnati women's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to Marquette (11-6) on Friday evening in Milwaukee, Wis. inside Helfaer Tennis Stadium.
The Bearcats got behind early by dropping the doubles point to the Golden Eagles. MU's Gillian Hush and Olga Fischer put an end to Jasmine Lee and Ashleigh Witte's three-match doubles play winning streak with an 8-1 decision. Carly Wilson and Sierra Sullivan also fell in an 8-6 decision against Kristina Radan and Ali Dawson.
UC was able to secure one victory in doubles play, an 8-4 decision in favor of Safiyya Ismail and Kristina Georgieva versus Marquette's Rocio Diaz and Ana Pimienta.
The Bearcats were unable to really get anything going in singles play. UC dropped five out of six singles matches, four of which in straight sets.
Jasmine Lee was quickly defeated by Gillian Hush, 6-4, 6-1, with Sierra Sullivan falling in a 6-2, 6-2 decision against Ali Dawson.
Carly Wilson was dropped 6-2, 6-1 by Vanessa Foltinger, while Kristina Geoergieva fell 3-6, 6-1, 6-1 against Olga Fischer. Safiyya Ismail fell short as well with a 6-4, 7-5 decision to Kristina Radan.
Ashleigh Witte was the lone Bearcat who was able to pick up a singles play win. Witte battled MU's Rocio Diaz in three sets to a 6-2, 6-7, 10-7 decision. The win upped Witte's team-leading season singles play record to 10-8.
The loss drops UC's BIG EAST record to 3-3. Cincinnati (6-12) will have an opportunity to rise above .500 in conference play with a visit to Chicago, Ill. to face the DePaul Blue Demons on Sunday, April 4, at 12 p.m.
