HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The University of Cincinnati women’s tennis team fell in a 6-1 decision against Marshall (12-9) on Sunday afternoon in Huntington, W.Va. at the Brian David Fox Tennis Center. The loss comes in UC’s final regular season match of the year.
The Bearcats (7-16) got in an early deficit when they were swept in doubles play by Marshall who secured the doubles point. In the No. 1 doubles position, Jasmine Lee and Ashleigh Witte dropped an 8-1 decision to Dominika Zaprazna and Maria Voscekova, while Kristina Georgieva and Safiyya Ismail were blanked 8-0 by Ellie Ball and Kara Kucin. The sweep was completed with an 8-4 defeat of Sierra Sullivan and Carly Wilson by Marshall’s Kristina Koprcina and Karlyn Timko.
Cincinnati’s lone point of the day came in singles play with a 7-6, 0-6, 6-1 decision in favor of Ashleigh Witte against MU’s Kara Kucin. The singles win is Witte’s thirteenth of the season and second in as many days.
UC’s struggles in singles play continued today with four Bearcats falling in straight sets. Jasmine Lee dropped a 6-4, 6-2 decision against Dominika Zaprazna, with Kristina Georgieva falling 6-1, 6-0 to Maria Voscekova. Sierra Sullivan was topped 6-1, 6-1 by Kristina Koprcina, while Safiyya Ismail was defeated 6-4, 7-5 by Karlyn Timko.
suffered a hard-fought three set defeat against Kai Broomfield in a 2-6, 6-3, 1-0 (13-11) decision.
BIG EAST Championship play begins on Thursday, April 19 and lasts until Sunday, April 22. Qualification and seeding are yet to be determined.
