Women's Tennis Rolls During Opening Day of BGSU Invitational|

CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati tennis team opened the first day of the Bowling Green State University Invitational with a strong showing. Six of seven Bearcats reached the finals in their respective flights.
Witte, playing in the first position for the first time, defeated Pia Rygh of Toledo (6-7(6), 6-0, 6-3) and Mayu Sato of IPWF (6-0, 6-0) to reach the finals. Kelly Poggensee-Wei took a similar route, using 5-7, 7-5, 6-3 wins and 6-1, 6-0 wins to reach the final in the second flight. Her opening win against Emily Reuland of BGSU represented the first loss for the senior at her home tournament.
Competing in their first collegiate events, both Katya Bure and Lauren Bellinger each reached the finals in the third and fourth flights respectively. Bure won her matches by scores of 6-1, 6-2 and 3-6, 6-2 and 6-0 while Bellinger took victories by scores of 1-6, 6-4, 6-2 and 6-3, 6-2.
The fifth flight features an all-Cincinnati final with Hanna Wille and Sierra Sullivan each reaching the final. Wille won in straight sets by scores of 6-3, 6-3 and 7-5, 6-1. Sullivan won easily 6-0 and 6-1 in the opening match before needing a come-from-behind win in the second match by scores of 2-6, 6-1 and 6-3.
Advancing in the winner's bracket in doubles competition was the duo of Poggensee-Wei/Bellinger and Sullivan/Bure.
Competition at the opening fall event will conclude Saturday, September 21.
