HAMILTON, Ohio - The University of Cincinnati women's tennis team lost to area rival Miami University, 6-1, at the Riverside Athletics Club in Hamilton, Ohio on Friday, Jan. 29.
The Bearcats dropped the opening doubles point of the match, losing the three contests, 8-3, 8-2, 8-3.
In singles action, sophomore Ksenia Slynko and junior transfer Lindsey Lonergan each extended their singles matches to a third set.
Lonergan, playing in the No. 2 position won her first set vs. Miami's Stephanie Danesis, 6-0, but lost the second set, 4-6. In the tiebreak Danesis took the point the point for Miami, winning 10-5.
Slynko won UC its lone point of the match in the No. 4 singles spot with a hard fought battle. After going down 2-6 in the first set, Slynko rallied back with a 6-1 win on the second set and captured the match on the final point of the contest in the tiebreak, 10-8.
The Bearcats (0-2) travel to Indiana University tomorrow, Saturday, Jan. 30 at 2 p.m. for its next match. The trip to IU will mark head coach Angela Wilson's return to Bloomington, where as a member of the Indiana tennis team, she was twice named team captain and was a part of two Big Ten titles (1984, 1987).
