Women's Tennis Starts Four-Game Road Swing at No. 65 Louisville

CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati women’s tennis team will travel to Louisville on Sunday, February 9 to take on the No. 65 Louisville Cardinals at 2 p.m. in the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.

The Bearcats are coming off a narrow 4-3 loss to Miami (Oh) back on Saturday, Feb. 1, in Hamilton.  

Against the RedHawks, Cincinnati earned the doubles point and took a 1-0 lead but suffered losses in the next three single matches. Senior Ashleigh Witte (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West) and sophomore Kelly Poggensee-Wei (Lake Villa, Ill./Grayslake North) each won their respected matches to bring the score to a 3-3 tie. Senior Caitlin O’Gara (Springboro, Ohio/Bishop Fenwick) came up just short of taking her match to a game deciding third set as UC fell 4-3

Louisville is currently 2-2 pending the outcome of their Saturday afternoon match against Evansville. The Cardinals latest victory came against Morehead State on Wednesday, Feb. 6 in a 7-0 sweep. Louisville was led in singles play by Becky Bodine topping her opponent 6-0, 6-0 in straight sets.

Cincinnati will continue their next three matches on the road before returning home on Saturday, Feb. 22, to take on Bowling Green State University at the Western Tennis and Fitness Club.
