CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati women’s tennis team will host a pair of matches this weekend. The Bearcats will open up their weekend matches against Bowling Green State University on Saturday, February 22, at 3 p.m. and will concluded against conference foe Rutgers University on Sunday, February 23, at 10 a.m. at the Western Tennis & Fitness Center.
Cincinnati comes into the weekend with a 3-6 overall record and a 0-1 mark in conference play after picking up decisive 7-0 wins in two of their three matches against Butler University and IUPUI. Both sophomore Hannah Wille (St. Louis, Mo./Parkway Central) and senior Sierra Sullivan (Austin, Texas/The Khabele School) picked up their first singles victories on the season against Butler.
Bowling Green is currently 4-2 following a 7-0 loss to Xavier Friday night. The Falcons latest victory came against Cleveland State on Feb. 14 in a 6-1 decision. The Falcons were led in singles play by Hannah Drayton, defeating her opponent 6-0, 6-2.
Katie Brozovich now holds the schools singles record at 25-2 in dual matches after she took down her CSU’s challenger 6-2, 6-1. Nikki Chiricosta moved into a tie for first place on Bowling Green’s career singles win at 89, equaling the record set by her sister, Christine, in 2011.
Rutgers is currently 3-3 after dropping a 6-1 decision to Louisville Friday afternoon. The Scarlet Knights have now dropped two in a row following a defeat from Princeton on Feb. 19 by a 6-1 score. Farris Cunningham gave Rutgers their lone victory against Tigers in three sets, 6-3, 2-6, (5).
The Bearcats will look to avenge both of their losses against Bowling Green and Rutgers last season barely falling by a score of 4-3 in each match.
