Bearcats Continue BIG EAST Play with Midwestern Road Trip

CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati women’s tennis team returns to BIG EAST action this weekend when they hit the road to take on the Marquette Golden Eagles and the DePaul Blue Demons.

The Bearcats will travel to Milwaukee, Wis. on Friday, March 30 to face Marquette at 3 p.m. in the Helfaer Tennis Stadium. Marquette boasts a 10-6 overall record and a 3-1 BIG EAST record after dropping a road match to the No. 17 Notre Dame Irish on Sunday, March 25.

The Golden Eagles were shut out by the Irish after previously defeating Illinois State 5-2 on March 23. Against Illinois State, MU was paced by the strong play of Vanessa Foltinger, who defeated Hannah Esker 6-0, 6-2 in the No. 6 singles position.

Cincinnati will continue its Midwest swing with a trip to Chicago, Ill. on April 1 to battle DePaul at 12 p.m. in the Lakeshore Athletic Club. The No. 64 Blue Demons currently hold a 10-5 overall record and 1-0 BIG EAST record. DePaul is on the heels of a two-match losing streak with losses to Iowa and Northwestern. The Blue Demons will look to right the ship prior to facing the Bearcats when they challenge Notre Dame on the road on Saturday, March 31.

UC is currently riding a two-match winning streak after their spring trip to the Sunshine State. The Bearcats defeated both Augustana (S.D.) and Wisconsin-Milwaukee in consecutive days to improve their overall record to 6-11. In the two matches, the Bearcats surrendered only one point and once again saw steady play in the No. 1 singles position from Jasmine Lee who improved her season singles play record to 8-9.

Jasmine Lee, along with her doubles partner Ashleigh Witte, went undefeated in the trip to Orlando, Fla., with each earning two doubles play wins and two singles play wins. The duo is currently riding a streak of three-straight doubles play victories. With consecutive singles wins, Ashleigh Witte upped her season singles record to 9-8 and maintains her standing as the team leader in singles play victories.
