CINCINNATI – Ashleigh Witte (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West) of the University of Cincinnati women’s tennis team was named the BIG EAST Women’s Tennis Player of the Week as announced by the conference on Tuesday afternoon. Witte led the Bearcats to a 2-0 week with wins over Northern Kentucky and Xavier.
The junior was 2-0 in singles play from the No. 3 position and 2-0 in doubles play from the No. 2 spot. Witte did not drop a set in singles or doubles against the Norse. She swept Shana Kleynen 6-0, 6-0 and won 8-0 in doubles with partner Sierra Sullivan (Austin, Texas/Khabele School). In the win against the Musketeers, the junior defeated Kally Alkire 6-3, 6-3 and won 8-3 in doubles play.
This is the third conference honor for the Bearcats this season. Senior Caitlin O’Gara (Spingboro, Ohio/Bishop Fenwick) was named the Player of the Week on Feb. 19 and senior Jasmine Lee (Canton, Ohio/Glen Oak) was given the title on March 5.
Next up, the Bearcats will host Wright State on Wed., April 3 at the Trabert-Talbert Tennis Center on the UC campus. It will be the first home outdoor match of the season for the Bearcats.
