CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati tennis team will head to Bowling Green, Ohio to participate in the Bowling Green State Invitational Sept. 21 and 22.
Eight Bearcats will make the trip, including senior Jasmine Lee (Canton, Ohio/Glen Oaks), senior Caitlin O’Gara (Springboro, Ohio/Bishop Fenwick), freshman Kelly Poggensee-Wei (Lake Villa, Ill./Graslake North), junior Sierra Sullivan (Austin, Texas), freshman Hannah Wille (St. Louis, Mo./Parkway Central), junior Carly Wilson (Fort Mitchell, Ky./Beechwood), and junior Ashleigh Witte (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West) who will compete in both singles and doubles, and graduate student Elise Woulfe (Western Springs, Ill./Lyons Township) who will compete in doubles only.
A total of eight teams will compete against the Bearcats, including BGSU, Cleveland State, Duquesne, IPFW, IUPUI, Miami (Ohio), Toledo and Xavier.
The singles portion of the tournament will be broken down into seven flights, with each flight being comprised of a main draw and a back draw. Lee will compete in the first flight and will face Alex Bush of Cleveland State. In the second flight, Witte will match up against Xavier’s Daniella Patton while O’Gara draws Miami’s Ramona Costea in flight No. 3. The fourth flight features Wille against BGSU’s Mary Hill while fellow freshmen Poggensee-Wei takes on Alexa Miller of Duquesne in the fifth flight. Wilson will take on IUPUI’s Rachael Bidegroom in flight No. 6 and Sullivan rounds out the singles flights by playing CSU’s Mengdi Liu in flight No. 7.
The doubles draw will feature four flights, with Lee and Witte teaming up to take on UT’s Lexy Pitt and Pia Rygh in the first flight. The duo of O’Gara and Wilson will compete against Maddy Eccleston and Katie Grubb of BGSU in the second flight and the freshman tandem of Wille and Poggensee-Wei will play BGSU’s Jade Johnson and Drew Fillis in flight No. 3. Woulfe and Sullivan will play in fourth flight and match up against IUPUI’s Jesika Bays and Bobbi Modesto
All tournament action will begin on Friday, Sept. 21 and conclude on Saturday, Sept. 22.
