CINCINNATI – University of Cincinnati women’s tennis student-athlete Lauren Bellinger (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Jerome) was honored as Tennis Player of the Month for September by the American Athletic Conference’s inaugural tennis award.
The true freshman started her collegiate career with an impressive run at the Bowling Green State University Invitational. Bellinger went undefeated during the weekend, winning three straight wins in both singles and doubles play. Bellinger dropped just one set during her championship singles run before teaming up with Kelly Poggensee-Wei (Lake Villa, Ill./Grayslake North) to also capture the weekend doubles title.
“I am thrilled for Lauren,” stated head coach Angela Wilson. “This award is a testament to her hard work and her competitiveness. It is a great start to her collegiate career here at UC.”
Bellinger followed up her opening weekend performance by winning a pair of singles matches and one doubles match at the Hoosier Classic.
The fall award comes after three different Bearcats earned conference player of the week honors last spring.
The Bearcats will next compete at the ITA-Regionals hosted by Memphis Oct. 18-22.
