HOUSTON, Texas - The University of Cincinnati volleyball team opened its Texas road trip with a 3-0 loss to Houston (25-21, 25-13, 25-15). The Bearcats dropped to 0-16 on the year and 0-3 in the American Athletic Conference, while the Cougars improved to 10-7, 2-0 in league play.

Morgan Allred (Carrolton, Texas/Hebron) led the Bearcats in her return to her native Texas, posting 10 kills. Kristin Conor (Lone Tree, Colo./Highlands Ranch) led UC with 15 assists, while Breanna Barksdale (Chula Vista, Calif./Eastlake) led the team with four blocks. Shelby Green(Dripping Springs, Texas/Dripping Springs) also played well in her return to Texas, leading the team with six digs.

Houston was led by 14 kills from Sarita Mikals, while Cortney Warren added 11 kills. Setter Sophie Paine recorded 31 of Houston's 32 helpers, while Natalie Keck led the way with 14 digs.

The Cougars took the first set, 25-21, taking advantage of 11 Bearcat errors in the set. The opening set did feature 11 ties and five lead changes before Houston pulled away.

Houston continued to up the pressure, hitting .261 in the second set to win, 25-13. They sealed the victory with their best set, winning 25-15 behind a hitting percentage of .346.

The Bearcats stay in the Lone Star State for their next match as they visit SMU on Sunday, Oct. 6. First serve in Dallas is set for 2:00 p.m. ET.
