Volleyball Falls to No. 13 Louisville|

CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati volleyball team fell to No. 13 University of Louisville 3-0 (25-21, 25-18, 25-21) on Sunday afternoon at Fifth Third Arena in a match nationally televised on ESPNU.
Cincinnati (9-15, 7-4 BIG EAST) recorded 31 kills and 38 digs in the match compared to Louisville’s (21-3, 10-1 BIG EAST) 44 kills and 36 digs. The Bearcats were led by senior Jordanne Scott’s (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence North) match-high 12 kills and junior Emily MacIntyre’s (Muncie, Ind./Yorktown) match-high 18 digs.
Louisville took a 1-0 match lead after winning the first game 25-21. The teams played evenly and neither gaining more than a point until the Cardinals registered back-to-back points on a kill and a UC error to bring go ahead 20-18. Louisville pushed its lead to 23-20 following a kill by Tayna Lukyankenko to force Alvey to call a timeout. A kill by Scott brought UC within 24-21, but it was not enough and another UofL kill ended the set 25-21. Scott led all players with six kills in the game while MacIntyre added a game-high five digs.
The Cardinals surged to an early 13-2 lead in the second game following four Cincinnati attack errors and four kills by Louisville’s Lola Arslanbekova. The Bearcats would not get any closer as seven Arslanbekova kills powered Louisville to a 25-13 game victory. The second game was the 474th career set for Scott, who moved into 10th place on the program’s all-time sets played list.
The Bearcats stormed out of the intermission, scoring the first three points of the third game. Louisville used four consecutive points to tie the match at 6-6 and took its first lead of the game at 15-14. A UC attack error and an Arslanbekova kill gave UofL match point at 24-19, but the Bearcats responded with three consecutive points including a kill by Scott and a block by senior Becca Refenes (Westland, Mich./Lutheran Westland). After fending off three match points, the Bearcats finally succumbed with Arslanbekova’s 11th kill of the match.
The Bearcats will be back in action on Wed., Oct. 31 when they travel to Dayton, Ohio to take on the Dayton Flyers at 7 p.m. IT will be the lasts non-conference match of the season for Cincinnati.
