CINCINNATI –The University of Cincinnati volleyball team continues the longest home winning streak in the nation with a 3-0 sweep of Syracuse Sunday afternoon (25-14, 25-11, 25-13).

The winning streak at Fifth Third Arena is now at 48 wins, dating all the way back to 2007.

The Bearcats were led by the solid all-around play by senior Missy Harpenau (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mother of Mercy) with 13 kills, a .464 hitting percentage, three aces and a match-high 11 digs.

Junior Jordanne Scott (Indianapolis, Ind. /Lawrence North) had the match-leading attacking numbers for the second time this weekend. The hitter recorded 15 kills and a .583 percentage. She and all the other Bearcat attackers were set up by freshman Caylin Mahoney (Fort Worth, Texas/Keller Central) who put up a match-high 34 assists.

Sophomore libero Emily MacIntyre (Muncie, Ind. /Yorktown) was second on the team with 8 digs and no serve reception errors. Junior Becca Refenes (Westland, Mich. /Lutheran Westland) recorded three block assists and 6 kills for a .545 hitting percentage.

Junior Megan Turner (Ontario, N.Y. /Wayne Central) and Harpenau started the third set with kills for an 9-3 lead. Two blocks in a row from Refenes (one each with Harpenau and Scott) and a serving run by Mahoney brought the lead to 18-8. The set and match ended with a block by freshman Me’Ashah Nicholson (Shiloh, Ill. /Belleville Althoff) and Mahoney for a third set score of 25-13.

Mahoney started the second set with an ace and a 6-0 run for the Bearcat lead. Turner then added an ace and Harpenau and junior Emily Hayden (Louisville, Ky. /Assumption) recorded kills to add to the lead 15-5. More kills from Turner and Harpenau got the set win closer to the Bearcats 24-11. Hayden got the last kill of the set for a Cincinnati 25-11 win.



The Bearcats started the match with a quick 6-2 lead thanks to kills from Turner and Scott. Mahoney then added two kills of her own to extend the lead 13-7. Additional kills and an ace from Harpenau and digs from MacIntyre led to a Bearcat set point 24-14. Scott ended the set with a kill on the right side 25-14. The team hit an impressive .432 percentage in the first set led by Turner (.750), Mahoney (.750), Scott (.636) and Harpenau (.600).

The Bearcats will be on the road for their last regular season BIG EAST matches against Villanova and Georgetown. The matches Friday, November 11 at 12:30 p.m. (Georgetown) and Sunday, November 13 at 2:00 p.m.
