CINCINNATI - University of Cincinnati head volleyball coach Reed Sunahara will reunite with former Bearcat Stephanie Niemer once again when the duo participates in Bring it Promotion's China-USA Challenge Invitational from June 10-20, 2011 in Beijing.
Sunahara will coach Niemer on the USA Development Team, which is scheduled to play against top Chinese collegiate and club teams from Beijing and Veifeng City as well as the Chinese Youth National Team.
"Any time you can coach a great player like that is exciting," said Sunahara. "[Niemer] is one of the best to come out of Cincinnati. It's exciting to go to another country and experience a different style of volleyball. I'm looking forward to seeing what she can do against those teams."
Niemer is not the only familiar face for the 2010 BIG EAST Coach of the Year, who also has experience coaching against USA Red team members Julie Chin (Northwestern), Laura DeBruler (Illinois) and Cara Baarendse (Virginia Tech). The players will join Sunahara in his first international coaching stint since 2002, when he joined former UC All-American Julie Dupont in the Czech Republic.
"It's going to be a good trip because of the opportunity to play volleyball combined with the history of the country," said Sunahara. "It's great to go to a place I haven't been before. Hopefully the players will remember it for the rest of their lives."
The team will come together to train at the Anaheim Sports Center (ASC) in Anaheim, California (home of the USA Men's and Women's National Teams) on June 7 and 8 prior to departure to Beijing on June 9. Further information can be found here.
