CINCINNATI
 - The University of Cincinnati volleyball team hits the road for the first time in the 2014 season when it heads to Louisville, Kentucky, for the Active Ankle Challenge hosted by the University of Louisville on Sept. 5 and 6. The Bearcats will face stiff competition during the two day event, playing undefeated Appalachian State at Noon on Friday, No. 24 Louisville at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Tennessee State at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.

"Our team needs to focus on playing good volleyball," said senior Jamie Netisingha. "We need to keep it simple. We know we are traveling and won't be at home, but I think staying together is a big deal, especially when you are on the road. We just need to take it one game at a time."

Cincinnati is coming off a 2-1 performance at the Queen City Classic, which it hosted in conjunction with Xavier University, picking up wins over Duquesne and UC Irvine for a strong start to the season.

// HILL NAMED WOMEN'S PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Ciara Hill (Bolingbrook, Ill./Bolingbrook) was named the Women's Player of the Week for the University of Cincinnati on Sept. 2. Hill led the Bearcats in the opening weekend of play with a 3.50 kills/set ratio in three matches. The sophomore recorded her second-career double-double in a 3-1 win over Duquesne with 17 kills and a career-high 10 digs.

// HAPPY 300th FIFTH THIRD ARENA
Fifth Third Arena, home to the Bearcats volleyball team since 1989, celebrated its 300th UC volleyball match on Saturday, Aug. 30. The Bearcats beat UC Irvine 3-0 to cap off two straight wins in the arena.   Overall, the Bearcats have a 215-85 (.716) record within their home venue, making it the ultimate home court advantage for Cincinnati.

// UC vs. APPALACHIAN STATE
This will be the first meeting between the Bearcats and the Mountaineers.

// SCOUTING THE MOUNTAINEERS
App State is 4-0 on the year after winning the Appalachian Invitational and topping Gardner Webb on Tuesday. The Mountaineers picked up solid wins last weekend, including a 3-0 thumping of perennial volleyball powerhouse Tennessee. The team was picked to finished seventh in the Sun Belt, but has played tougher than the preseason rankings would indicate.

ASU is led by junior outside hitter Emily Corrigan who has amassed a 4.54 kills/set average through four matches. Defensively, Meghan Mahoney is recording 4.15 digs/set.

// UC vs. LOUISVILLE
The former conference rivals have faced up 55 times in program history with the Cardinals holding a 38-17 advantage. UofL has won the last nine meetings, including two 3-0 decisions last season. Cincinnati's last victory in the series was a 3-0 win on Oct. 23, 2009, in Fifth Third Arena.

In the last matchup between the teams, the Bearcats were led by junior Amelia Wegman (Aurora, Ill./Rosary) who totaled seven kills while senior Madi Lang (Commerce Township, Mich./Florida Atlantic) had 18 assists and Netisingha collected seven digs.

// SCOUTING THE CARDINALS
Louisville climbs into the top-25 this week after an upset victory over No. 12 Minnesota in Minneapolis. The team is 1-1 on the year after dropping a 3-0 decision to sixth-ranked Wisconsin to open the season.

Freshman Maggie DeJong was named the ACC Freshman of the Week after recording 11 kills vs. Minnesota. She hit .567 for the weekend, including a .700 outing against Wisconsin.

// UC vs. TENNESSEE STATE
The Bearcats are 4-0 historically against the Tigers of Tennessee State. The last meeting between the teams came on Sept. 10, 1999, when UC swept TSU 3-0 as part of the Ohio University Bromley Invitational. The match will be the first of two against the Tigers this season - TSU will also travel to Cincinnati to take part in the UC Invitational Sept. 19 and 20.

// SCOUTING THE TIGERS
TSU is 0-3 this season with losses to Arkansas, Michigan and Stephen F. Austin. The Tigers are led by experienced redshirt senior Naomi Wells who is averaging 3.11 kills/set, 4.00 digs/set and 0.56 blocks/set this year.
